Personlized Nutrition Counseling

What Is Nutrition Counseling?
During one-on-one nutrition counseling, Heather will work with you to develop a nutrition game-plan which will help move you closer to your specific health goals.

Examples of common health issues that can be addressed by nutrition intervention include:

  • Blood Pressure
  • Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis (IBD)
  • Celiac Disease
  • Diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, Gestational)
  • Cholesterol
  • Irritable Bowel Disease (IBS)
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Weight Management

What to Expect?
Whether you are interested in managing a medical condition, fine-tuning your food choices, or a complete nutrition overhaul, working with a Registered Dietitian typically requires an initial nutrition assessment and subsequent follow-up visits. Depending on your health goals,  your nutrition package may also include a guided grocery store tour, cooking instruction, meal plans, or other nutrition education programs.

Initial Nutrition Assessment
During the 90-minute Initial Nutrition Assessment, Heather will discuss your goals, objectives, and motivation for seeking out nutrition guidance at this time. Other topics that may be reviewed include:

  • medical history, relevant lab results, and any current medications or supplements you are taking
  • lifestyle factors such as stress levels, sleep quality, dietary preferences, energy & activity levels, and gastrointestinal function
  • typical day of food and beverage consumption, cooking habits, and weekly schedule
  • defining specific short-term goals and strategies to achieve those goals within a certain time frame

Follow-Up Visits
While every patient situation is different, most will require at least two follow-up visits. These sessions are intended to review the goals set in the initial assessment, evaluate the progress, and then adjusting goals and/or strategies as necessary. Nutrition education may be provided based on client needs.

Will I Have to Give Up Foods I Love?
A healthy lifestyle is not about restrictions, it’s about creating new habits. There are endless opportunities to explore health-promoting foods and Heather will work with your preferences, schedule, and individual health concerns to discover a nutrition intervention that makes the most sense for you.

Do you take insurance?
At this time, payment is required upfront and a super bill can be provided after the nutrition counseling session. You can file the super bill with your insurance carrier and they may reimburse you for some or all of the visit. Prior to making an appointment, you can call your insurance company to see if a Registered Dietitian visit is covered.
